“for Etel Adnan”
I’ve been inspired so much lately by the amazing Lebanese-American poet, essayist, and visual artist Etel Adnan who spent much of her life inspired by Mount Tamalpais. This painting’s style diverges from my usual work because of the influence of her abstracted landscapes using bold color applied with palette knives. While at work, I thought a lot about the Middle East, political conflict, the desert, barbed wire, and polarizing borders and parallels to our current American divides.
